ASUU UPDATE
The strike rocking the Nigerian Higher Institutions seems to have taken a new turn even as it has flippantly proved unabated. You would recall that the Minister for Education addressed the Press on Thursday the 18th of August. And he stated that all other Six Unions have agreed to call off their strike bar ASUU. Saying ASUU has presented them with two new conditions to call off the strike, one of which is the payment of the six months strike arias. That that was the only thing currently holding ASUU from calling off the strike.
ASUU National Secretary for Investment and formal chairman ASUU UNIPORT Chapter, Dr Austin Sado, in a chat with NIGERIAINFO FM monitored in Port Harcourt has the following to say.
Dr Austin Sado.
Dr Austin Sado started by quoting an article written by the present Minister Mallam Adamu Adamu in 2013, " that the Nation holds a debt to ASUU for the work and their strive over the years so as to reshape and make out Higher Institutions competitive as other Nation's Higher Institutions".
Dr Sado is aghast at what has changed now that the said person who is now in the place of authority where he can effect positive change has now turned aback. Dr Austin Sado stated that in one their meetings with the DR Lulu bricks, that Dr Lulu bricks was reminiscing about the condition of service in the Nigerian Higher Institutions in 1966. That Dr Lulu bricks said when he travelled out of the country in that year for his MSc program, that there was nothing the student over their knew that he didn't and the Condition of Service over their was comparable with what was obtainable in Nigeria, to the point that when he was done with his studies he couldn't wait to return to Nigeria.
On The Minister's Comments.
Dr Sado said he would like to be put on record that the Minister for Education Mallam Adamu Adamu is blatantly lieing to the Nigerian People and it's sad. Stating that their was and has never been a time in any of the meeting that ASUU has presented any offer, as a matter of fact that the Minister for Education was asked by ASUU if he has the mandate to negotiate with the Unions? And he affirmed, only to get to the meeting the Minister started saying he hasn't discussed with the Government. ASUU now asked now asked him so how did you come up with offer you are presenting to us?.
Dr Austin Sado said everyone at ASUU does not even know we they are in the negotiations, as the federal government seems not to be straight forward..
On TETFUND.
You would recall that the Minister sayed that the Federal Government has spent over 2.5 trillion Naira on Education in the past Ten years through TETFUND.
Dr Austin Sado asked if this present Administration has been for ten years? That this Administration with a penchant for allocating blames to the the previous Administration are now taking credit from them.
That said, Dr Sado reemphasized that TETFUND was even borne out of the suggestion of the ASUU, and that Monies from TETFUND is not from the Federal Government. TETFUND are monies put up by Businesses and Multinationals who has made profit in doing business in Nigeria, being encouraged to make some little contribution to that account.
The Government has a budget, which should be how they contribute directly to the Universities.
ON NO WORK, NO PAY.
Dr Sado said the the Union haven't even gotten to that point. But in any case, going by a charter which the Federal Government are signatories to, that the Federal Government or any other Organizations at that can't withhold the salaries of striking workers, as strike is one the means the worker can air their disagreement.
In conclusion, Dr Austin Sado said the Government and it's Representatives seem not to have the sincerity and ability to resolve the issues but rather has continued to propagate falsehood and fragrant decit of the Nigerian teeming Youths.
Didi's Blog would like to see this imbroglio brought to an end, and quickly. The Federal Government has got to do whatever it takes to nip this. Enough of Excuses and lies.
